Join the Brotherhood at St. John’s Lodge Number 40

Where Friends Meet

What is the process to become a Mason?

The eligibility criteria is covered in our FAQ but the process is more complex.

We would like to get to know you before offering anyone a petition for membership. This is important to us because we want to offer the best experience possible to the new member and ensure all parties have similar expectations. While we are here to make new friends and meet brothers, our highest priority is that nothing disrupts the harmony of the lodge. There is no timeline for how long it might take before being offered a petition. Get involved in our public events, get to know us.

Once you have submitted a petition the process will take no less than 3 months. It may take as much 5 or 6 months if there are delays, like our summer break. Below is an outline of the process:

1

Step one

Your completed petition must be delivered to the secretary, and announced at the next meeting.

2

Step two

All members of the lodge must be notified in writing.

3

Step three

A Committee of Inquiry will review your application and meet with you in person.

4

Step four

The Committee submits a report in open lodge at the following meeting

5

Step five

If the report is favourable, a notice of ballot will be sent in writing to all lodge members

6

Step six

At the next meeting, a ballot is cast on your application

7

Step seven

You are contacted with the results, and if favourable a date will be set for your initiation no sooner than the next meeting
